The 2018 Darwin Lions Beer Can Regatta, was definitely a day not to be missed, the beach was packed and Mindil Markets supplied fantastic food! There were loads of activities for the kids and plenty of beer for the adults!
The beer can regatta was established in 1974 and is successfully continuing till this day, there was clearly a lot of beer enjoyed in the lead up to today, but it’s also such a great way to recycle cans that would otherwise be disposed of. This event supports community organisations and this year all proceeds have gone to The Asthma Foundation – a great community organisation offering support and education to Territorians.
MMC Australia sponsored a great group of kids this year! Jason and his grandfather, Connell Brannelly, President of Palmerston Lions Club started building this raft in March. They’ve used 230 Milk bottles, 3x2meter pieces of Ply that’s all recycled, and then a few tubes of silicone and rolls of duct tape to keep it all together.
The MMC Logo looked great and you could see those orange flags a mile off!
As you can see there was a lot of time, preparation, effort and test days put into this little boat and they made us proud!
Well done to Jason 9, Jamie 9, Thomas 8 and Lucas 11, who did a great job out on the water yesterday and took home the encouragement award!
